The Italian daily, La Repubblica, reported and posted a shocking video in its website on 16 May 2014 showing bodies of the Lampedusa tragedy of last October scattered under the sea bed and inside the lower decks of the boat.
Mr. Menghesteab Asmerom, the chairman of the Eritrean People’s Democratic Party (EPDP) sent a message to the EU Commission President Jose Manuel Barroso and the Italian Prime Minister Matteo Renzi, expressing deep disappointment on the failure of Italy and EU and requesting them to give “the most basic human dignity to Eritrean victims of the Lampedusa tragedy” that claimed over 360 lives on 3 October 2013.
Sent on 19 May 2014, the EPDP Chairman’s message was also copied to 28 EU member states and Lady Catherine Ashton, the High-Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy

ዕለት 04-05-2014 ኣብ ከተማ ፊሊቦርግ ሃገረ ሲዊዘርላንድ ናይ ዝተፈላለዩ ኤርታዊ ዜጋታን ብርክት ዝበሉ ፖለቲካዊ ውድባትን ሰልፍታትን ሲቪላዊ ማሕበራትን ምንቅስቓሳትን ዝተረኽብዎ ፈላሚ ጉባኤ ኣክዪዱ። ኣብ ቀንዱ ጭርሖ ናይዚ ምትእኽኻብ “ሓድነትና ኣደልዲልና ንሃገራዊ ድሕነት ንመርሽ።”እዚ ጭርሖ እዚ፡ ኣብዚ ዘሎናዮ እዋን ጀሚሩ ብተግባር መሰረት እናሓዘ ንቕድሚት ክስጉም ዘለዎ እምበር ተንጠልጢሉ ብመብጻዓ ኣብ ሓሳብን ጭርሖታትን ሓሳባትን ተጻሒፉ ጥራሕ ዝፍጸም ኣይኮነን። ነዚ ንኩሉ ደላይ ፍትሒ አርትራዊ ዜጋ ኣብዚ እዋን እዚ ዝጠልቦ እቲ መገዲ ሓድነት መሰረት ዲሞክራሲያዊ ዓወት ምዃኑ ኢዩ ዝርዳእ። እታ ንሰለስተ ወርሒ መደባትን መንቀሊ ንድፊ ክትሕንጽጽ ኣብዚ ተመርኵሳ ንኹሉ ዝተወደበ ይኹን ዘይተወደበ ዝካፈሉሉ ጉባኤ ክተዳሉ ንግዚኡ ግን ነቲ ነዓኣ ዝመስላ ጥርናፈን ኣገዳሲ ዝተባህለ ተብግሶታት ክትወስድ ዝማሕጸና ናይ ከተማ ‘ኣረው’ ፈለማ ኣኼባኣ ኣካይዳ። እዚ ከኣ በቲ እዋናዊ ተረኽቦ ተበግሶታት ከም ናይ ላምፐድሳ ህልቂት ብምክትታልን ኣብ ዝካየድ ዝነብረ ሰላማዊ ሰልፊ ኣብ ሮማ ብምክፋል ዝተገብረ ኣወሃሃዲ ስራሓትን፣ ከምኡ እውን ናይ ሓውና ዶክተር ተወልደ ተስፋማርያም (ወዲ ቫካሮ) ሰሚናር ንምድላው ዘጓነፈ ጸገማት ተሳዒሩ ኣብ ከተማ ሱሉተርን ክካየድ ተኻኢሉ። እዚ ብወለንታዊ ዝስራሕ እኳ እንተኾነ ጽዑቅን ብዙሕን ኣኬባ ድሕሪ ምግባር እነሆ እዚ ናይ ሎሚ ኣኼባ ክጽውዒ በቒዑ ክብል ግዚያዊ ኣሰናዳኢ ሽማግለ ስፍሕ ዝበለ ቁጠባውን ማሕበራውን መግለጺ ኣቕሪቡ።

ዲሞክራስያዊ ቃልሲ ብድጋፍን ተሳተፍነትን መላእ ህዝቢ’ዩ ዕዉት ዝኸውን። መሰረት’ቲ ቃልሲ’ውን ኣብ ጸረ ዓሌት፡ ጸረ ሃይማኖት፡ ካልኦት ከምኡ ዝኣመሰሉ ብትሕተ ሃገራውነት ዝልለዩ ምትእስሳራት ይኹኑ፡ ነጸልቲ ፖሊቲካውያን ምጥምማራት ዘካተተ ኽኸውን ዝበለጸ’ዩ።

ክጠቓለል እንከሎ፡ እቲ ጸረ ጸቓጢ ስርዓት ኮይኑ ክምክት ዝግባኦ ሓቀኛ ዲሞክራስያዊ ቃልሲ ኣብ ሃዋሁ እይኮነን ዝስራሕ፣ እንታይ’ደኣ፡ ንባዕሉ ካብ’ቲ በቲ ጸቓጢ ስርዓት’ቲ ብቐጥታ ዝጥቃዕ ዘሎ ህዝቢ ክፍጠር ግድነታዊ’ዩ። ኣብ ጉዳይና ክኸውን እንከሎ’ውን፡ ኣብ ውሽጢ ሃገርና ዝርከብ ህዝቢ ኤርትራ ንኽኸውን መተካእታ ኣይህሉዎን።

ንምንታይ’ዩ እዚ ኣገዳሲ ኮይኑ? ቀዳማይ፡ ኣብ ታሪኽ ተቓውሞ ኤርትራ ኣንጻር ምልኪ፡ ሓይልታት ተቓውሞ ኤርትራ ብዘይካ ኣብ ውሽጣዊ ጸገማቱን ምፍልላያቱን እነተዘይኮይኑ፡ ነቲ ዝድለ ዘሎ ለውጢ ዋናኡ ኮይኑ ኣብ ውሽጢ ሃገር ንዘሎ ህዝቢ ኤርትራ፡ ንምልጋስ ነዚ ኣብ ስልጣን ዘሎ ህግደፍ ከምዘይኣገዳስን ከምዘይኣድላዪን ገይሩ ይቖጽሮ።

Eritrean people are known for their resilience. They survived through the spirit of resilience over the last century in confronting those who attempted to subjugate them. And that spirit of resilience was never limited or propped up only in the event of facing foreign forces, but continued as a vital constituent element across the Eritrean cultures and traditions,

one that embodies our love for our country, our love for justice and rule of law, our love for unity, our love for mutual recognition and acceptance as Eritreans bound together and inseparable in our destiny…etc. This statement is not a fig leaf, but a fact witnessed over the last one hundred years in general and in the longest armed struggle ever waged in particular.
